Govt denies any peace talks with TalibanStaff Report
ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Sunday contradicted media reports that the government and Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) have initiated the dialogue process.
“Right now, no talks are being held with Talban. It is a sensitive and complicated issue,” Nisar said in a statement. The minister, however, said that the government has finalised it policy and strategy against terrorism and would implement it after taking all the political forces of the country on board.
Nisar said that it would be “premature” to say that the government has initiated the dialogue process with the Talban and announced that prime minister would start consultation process with the key political parties after coming back from Karachi in the current week. He also appealed to the media to avoid giving news related to talks with the Talban without verification from the Interior Ministry. Separately, Defence Secretary Lt Gen (r) Asif Yasin said that those who were supporting the idea of talks with the Taliban were “unclear”. Speaking at a ceremony late on Saturday, the secretary said that the Taliban did not accept the constitution of Pakistan and were also opposed to girls’ education. staff report/inp
