209 dead, 1.5 million affected in flash floods across country

ISLAMABAD: As many as 209 people have died and 1,122 sustained injuries in recent flash floods in the country, according to data released by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA)
on Sunday.

At least 71 persons have been reported dead with 1,010 injured in flash flooding in Punjab, 24 dead and 26 injured in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), 54 dead and 46 injured in Sindh, 18 dead and 17 injured in Balochistan, 15 dead and 11 injured in the Federally

Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) and 39 dead and 18 injured in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK). As many as 1,331,760 people have been affected due to the flooding in the country, including 762,913 in Punjab, 584 in KP, 525,613 in Sindh and 64,270 in Balochistan. Standing crops at 1,242,138 acres have been affected in the country, including 937,869 acres in Punjab, 535 acres in KP, 256,567 acre in Sindh, 63,969 acre in Balochistan and 76.25 acre in FATA. As many as 5,500 villages, including 2,245 in Punjab, two in KP, 3,077 in Sindh and 342 in Balochistan have been affected due to the flash flooding. Likewise, 40,702 houses have been damaged partially and 18,997 completely as a result of floods. In Punjab 17,041 houses have been damaged partially and 4,254 completely, in KP 507 partially and 287 completely, in Sindh 23,372 partially and 12,724 completely, in Balochistan 1,500 partially and 3,000 damaged completely, in FATA 127 partially and 60 damaged completely and in AJK 1,181 houses have been damaged partially and 367 completely. A total of 57,484 tents have been distributed among flood-hit people by the NDMA and Provincial Disaster Management Authorities so far, says the data. As many as 23,602 tents have been distributed in Punjab, 3,440 in KP, 10,185 in Sindh, 7,230 in Balochistan, and 177 in Azad Jammu Kashmir.

As many as 124,900 food packs have also been distributed among marooned people, including 106,100 in Punjab, 12,650 in KP, 1,500 in Sindh and 5,800 in Balochistan.

Some 16,887 blankets have so far been distributed among the flood victims, including 16,400 in KP, 540 in Balochistan and 67 in AJK. Similarly 28,950 mosquito nets have been distributed in flood-hit areas, including 8,000 in Punjab, 8,700 in Sindh and 6,100 in Balochistan.

A total of 400 relief camps have been providing basic amenities of life to 34,817 marooned people of flood-hit areas of the country. As many as 261 relief camps in Punjab are providing basic amenities to 9,824 flood-victims and 21,508 such people are being provided basic amenities of life in 146 relief camps of Sindh. Moreover, 4,793 cattle heads have been perished in flood-hit areas of the country including nine in Punjab, 95 in KP, 84 in Sindh, 4,555 in Balochistan and 117 in AJK. app
