Govt, opposition back to square one

By Tanveer Ahmed

ISLAMABAD: The government and opposition are back to square one position on the appointment of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) chairman as Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah could not agree upon a name for this slot on Thursday.

Khursheed Shah, who called on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in Prime Minister’s House, told the media that the prime minister has sought more names for the appointment.

Shah hinted at dropping the names of Justice (r) Rehmat Hussain and Justice (r) Sardar Raza Khan, who are currently in the race for the office of NAB chairman. Justice (r) Rehmat Hussain’s name was proposed by the government and Justice (r) Sardar Raza Khan was recommended from the opposition side. The government and opposition have already dropped the names of Justice (r) Rana Bhagwandas and Khawja Zaheeruddin, a former bureaucrat. The PML-N government has raised objections to the name of Justice (r) Sardar Raza Khan and opposition objected to the name of Justice (r) Rehmat Hussain.

Khursheed Shah said that the prime minister has sought more names from him whereas he would also forward a name to opposition leader for the NAB chief appointment.
