Pakistan observes Defence Day, commemorates martyrs
RAWALPINDI: Defence Day of Pakistan is being observed with zeal and fervour to pay homage and tributes to the Shuhada and Ghazis who rendered supreme sacrifice in defence of the motherland.
While observing Defence Day numerous functions are being held all across the country, the day began with the graceful change of guard ceremonies held at the mausoleums of the Quaid-e-Azam in Karachi and Allama Iqbal in Lahore.
A smartly turned out contingent of Risalpur PAF Academy took over the duty of guards at the mausoleum of Quaid-e-Azam in Karachi. Air Vice Marshall Rashid Kamal inspected the parade and laid wreath on the Mazar and offered ‘Fateha’.
In Lahore, Punjab Rangers assumed the duty of guards at the Mazar-e-Iqbal. Pak Army’s General Officer Commanding Major General Shahid Beg Mirza and Baloch Regiment’s Brigadier Najeeb Aamir Malik laid wreaths on the Mazar-e-Iqbal and offered ‘Fateha’.
A ceremony was also held at the Lahore Ranger Headquarters in which Deputy Director General Punjab Rangers Brigadier Mohammad Jamil laid wreaths on the monument of the martyrs.
There was a huge turnout for the flag lowering ceremony at the Wagah Border. Those in attendance chanted slogans of ‘Pakistan Army Zindabad’ and their love and commitment towards the country was on full display.
