Incorrect recitation of Quranic verse : Petition filed against Aitzaz

ISLAMABAD: A petition is moved at the Supreme Court seeking disqualification of Senator Aitzaz Ahsan for incorrectly reciting Surah (verse) Ikhlas of the Holy Quran.
Tariq Asad advocate field the petition on behalf of Dr Abid Rauf Orakzai of the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) under Article 184-3 of the Constitution making Federal Government through secretary Cabinet Secretariat, chief Election Commission of Pakistan, chairman Senate, and Senator Aitzaz Ahsan as respondents.
“During a political meeting to welcome former president Asif Ali Zardari on September 9, 2013, Aitzaz Ahsan, being a Senior Advocate while raising slogans in a shameful and disgraceful manner in humiliation of Bar, started to recite Sura Ikhlas of the Holy Quran so wrongly that all the participants and TV channels viewers became embarrassed that such a senior member of Bar is so ignorant of Islamic knowledge”, the petitioner submitted.
The petitioner further submitted that Surah Ikhlas is the foundation of Tauheed - one of the basic pillar of Islam ignoring to which Aitzaz does not pre-qualified to contest the election of Senate (Parliament) under clause (e) of Article 62.
Asad prayed the court to ask Aitzaz to recite Kalima Tayyaba and Kalima Shahadat as well
The petitioner also urged the court to declare Ahsan disqualified to become member of the Senate and the Parliament. He requested the court to direct chairman Senate to refer the matter to chief Election Commission that Aitzaz has become disqualified and ceases to be member of Senate.
