MQM ex-MPA Nadeem Hashmi sent on 7-day physical remand
KARACHI: An anti-terrorism court Thursday handed over Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) former MPA, Nadeem Hashmi to police on a seven-day physical remand in a murder case of two policemen.
Nadeem Hashmi, whose arrest paralyzed Karachi and interior Sindh on Wednesday, was produced in the anti-terrorism court (ATC) in murder case of two policemen.
During the court proceedings, the accused told the court that he worked as a medicine supplier and on Tuesday he went to the funeral prayers of his friend at 10 PM. On return, he added that he received guests at his residence with whom he had dinner.
He said between 11 PM and 12 AM some people broke into his house and asked him to get into the car. At 5 AM he got to know that he was an accused in the murder case of two policemen, he added.
Hashmi further said that according to the FIR he was riding a motorbike, however, he added that he had not ridden a motorbike for the past 25 years.
Judge Khalida Yaseen remarked that the investigation would reveal the truth.
Earlier, the accused was brought in an armored personnel carrier (APC) amid tight security before ATC judge Khalida Yaseen.
Two policemen were killed in North Nazimabad area of Karachi when gunmen opened fire on a police mobile van. The police had arrested the former lawmaker and lodged an FIR against him, drawing strong reaction from the MQM on Wednesday.
The MQM strongly condemned the arrest and termed it a conspiracy against the party. The party has also submitted a requisition for Sindh Assembly session.
