Major political parties support ‘targeted’ operation in Karachi

KARACHI: All the major political parties, including Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Pakistan Muslim League-Functional (PML-F) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) expressed support for the targeted operation in Karachi on Wednesday. Sindh Assembly Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani said that the MQM should go to courts if innocent party workers were arrested. PPP MPA Khairun Nisa Mughal said that the operation is necessary and Rangers would do it. The leaders of the PML-F and PTI also supported the targeted operation, saying the criminal elements must be arrested. Meanwhile, Awami National Party’s (ANP) Sindh President Senator Shahi Syed has said that all the political parties are equally responsible for restoration of peace in the metropolis. Talking to media persons on Wednesday, Senator Shahi said that establishing writ of the government in Karachi is not an easy task, and peace needs sacrifice. He said all the political and religious parties should extend complete support to the government for the targeted operation in Karachi. Minister for Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage Pervez Rashid has said that the Karachi operation was being conducted after evolving consensus of the leadership of country’s leading political parties. Talking to media after inaugurating a photographic exhibition in connection with the 65th death anniversary of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, he said no injustice would be done with anybody and law is taking its course in Karachi. He said a mechanism has been devised to avoid injustices with anybody. Rashid said all the political parties, including MQM, PPP, PTI, Jamaat-e-Islami and PML-F, were taken into confidence on the steps aimed at restoring peace in Karachi. The minister said the law and order situation in Karachi was improving fast and the situation will further improve with the passage of time. He added that the government was in close contact with Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah. Rashid said that the chief minister is supervising the operation against criminals in Karachi. The minister hoped that the situation in Karachi and other areas where there is unrest will improve with the passage of time. Meanwhile, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan said that MQM’s reservations over the Karachi operation would be removed. agencies
