SCO summit opens in Bishkek

BISHKEK: Advisor to Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz and Indian Foreign Minister Salman Khurshid will be meeting in Bishkek, on the sidelines of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit opens today (Friday).

SCO leaders have gathered in Bishkek for a summit aimed at fostering economic development and cooperation on regional security. The September 13 summit also brings together senior officials from countries that are SCO observers, special guests, and “dialogue partners.”

Sources said that Sartaj Aziz representing Pakistan and Indian External Affairs Minister, Salman Khurshid in their meeting expected to finalize a formal agenda for the likely meeting of the prime ministers of the two countries in New York.

Following last month’s tense situation at the Line of Control (LoC), this would be first such high-level contact between the two countries.

Indian External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid said that Pakistan neither took any concrete action against the Mumbai attack accused nor took notice of the tense situation at LoC and added that these reservations have to be removed before the meeting between the prime ministers of the two countries Manmohan Singh and Nawaz Sharif.
