AJK govt to hold local bodies polls in April

MUZAFFARABAD: The Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) government will hold local bodies elections in April next year under the framework of old local bodies law.

This was announced by Senior Minister Chudhary Yaseen while addressing a press conference on Thursday.

He said the decision was taken by AJK Prime Minister Chudhary Abdul Majeed after consultations. “Local bodies are essential to empower people through their representation at grassroots level”, he added.

He said that a committee has been constituted to prepare the roadmap for holding elections. He said elections would be held on a party-basis and a local bodies election commission would be constituted to hold them. He said deputy commissioners would be appointed as returning officers. app
