Consensus NAB chief to be appointed soon: govt

* Pervaiz Rashid says previous two govts failed to fight challenges

* PML-N has made major breakthroughs on terrorism, Karachi

RAWALPINDI: Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage Minister Pervaiz Rashid said on Saturday that the process for appointment of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) chairman with consensus would soon be completed.

“Leader of Opposition in the National Assembly Syed Khurshid Shah is abroad and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has directed Finance Minister Ishaq Dar to hold negotiations with him,” the minister told reporters.

To a question, he said the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) government was performing “excellently as significant progress has been made on resolving serious issues, including energy, terrorism and Karachi law and order problem”.

He said the government had enforced the writ of law in Karachi which, according to him, remained paralysed during the tenure of last governments.

The previous two governments could not dare touch these issues during their tenures, the minister said.

Asked about talks with the Taliban, Pervaiz Rashid urged the media, intelligentsia and civil society to avoid commenting on this serious and sensitive matter.

“Terrorism and lawlessness in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) and Balochistan will be wiped out through dialogue,” he added.

He said that culprits involved in the rape of five-year old Sumbal would soon be arrested and awarded exemplary punishment. The government has adopted a zero tolerance strategy on dealing with such issues, he added. agencies
