PM Nawaz conferred highest Turkish civil award
ANKARA: Turkish President Abdullah Gul has conferred the ‘Medal of Democracy’ on Pakistani Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif in Ankara on Tuesday, Geo News reported.
Pakistani Premier Nawaz Sharif is currently in Turkey on a three-day official visit.
Expressing his views after receiving the highest Turkish civil award, PM Nawaz said that it is an honour to receive the Medal of Democracy from the Turkish government and thanked President Gul.
He was addressing a press conference and said that the two countries enjoy brotherly ties and that the future of both the countries relies on democracy. He said that the Pakistan-Turkey relationships are as high as the Himalayas while the ties will be strengthened in the future as well.
The Pakistani premier said that the hearts of all the Pakistanis are filled with special love for Turkey, and that he considers Turkish president and the prime minister as his brothers.
During his visit‚ the two countries are likely to sign several MoUs and agreements besides the highest state award conferred upon Pakistan's premier.
Prime Minister Nawaz is visiting Turkey on the invitation of his Turkish counterpart.
Besides meeting the Turkish President Abdullah Gul, PM Nawaz will also hold talks with Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
The two Prime Ministers will co-chair the third meeting of the High Level Cooperation Council (HLCC) in Ankara. The HLCC provides a unique platform to give a long-term strategic direction to bilateral relations between the two brotherly countries of Pakistan and Turkey.
In recognition of close and brotherly relations between Pakistan and Turkey‚ President of the Republic of Turkey has conferred the award upon Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
In order to further enhance relations in all fields specially in the economic and commercial spheres‚ the two countries are likely to sign several agreements and MoUs. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will visit the site of an award-winning low-cost housing project in Ankara‚ built for disadvantaged sections of the society.
On September 18‚ Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will proceed to Istanbul where he will address a Business Forum. He will also have separate meetings with leading Turkish CEOs and investors.
