‘Acute water shortage has destroyed Indus Delta’KARACHI: The intellectuals and water experts have said that due to the ill planning and controversial schemes, Sindh has always suffered of acute water shortage that has destroyed the once magnificent Indus Delta.
Addressing a seminar titled ‘Our Lifeline: Our Sindhu River’ held at Sindh Abhyas Academy, SZABIST on Tuesday, the eminent water experts, ANG Abbasi, Idrees Rajput and others said that due to the sheer negligence of authorities, the tail-end province always suffered either of water shortage or excessive water during monsoon.
Sindh Abhyas Academy director Dr Ghazala Rahman Rafiq said that that the shameful accords, outrageous treaties, and neglected technical reports on the irrigation system in Sindh have forced the province to face history’s worst destructions. “Due to the shortage and sometimes flooding, the province suffers from a dying delta, food shortage, disasters and habitat destruction for animals, like Blind River Indus Dolphin that often die to increased river pollution,” she said. Talking about water logging and salinity in Sindh, Ghazala said, “It is clear to me that intelligent planning and a commitment to a viable and effective water delivery system has been a pressing issue in Sindh for 65 years.” staff reportCourtesy www.dailytimes.com.pk
