Kasuri leading RPI delegation to China

ISLAMABAD: Khurshid Mahmud Kasuri, former foreign minister and chairperson of the Regional Peace Institute (RPI), is leading a delegation to China to attend the International Peace Conference at Kunming in the Yunnan province. The conference will be held from September 20 to 22 and will be attended by a large number of dignitaries from the south Asian countries. RPI Executive Director and Board of Governors member Raoof Hasan is the other member of the delegation. The RPI delegation left for China on September 19. The conference is being held to commemorate the International Day of Peace and is being sponsored by the China-South Asia Peace and Development Forum. The Chinese vice president will attend the conference. After the conference, the participants will travel to Beijing to meet Chinese leaders. RPI Co-Chairperson General (r) Ehsanul Haq, former Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee chairman and former ISI DG, recently undertook a trip to China to establish linkages of the RPI with Chinese its partners. The current trip will consolidate those linkages. Khurshid Kasuri has been asked to chair one of the key sessions at the conference and deliver a talk on “Opportunities and Challenges: Traditional Heritage and Creative Development of the China-South Asia Relationship”. The RPI’s participation in the event would be an enriching experience, providing an opportunity to interact with other stakeholders from the region including politicians and think-tanks. It would be an opportunity for the RPI to strengthen its linkage with the Chinese hosts who are a major player in establishing peace in the region. pr
