Imran to decide about party’s dual office members* Party’s CEC condemns terrorist attack on church in Peshawar

ISLAMABAD: The Central Executive Committee (CEC) of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has mandated party’s chairman, Imran Khan, to decide on the dual offices of the party leaders.
PTI’s CEC on Sunday passed a unanimous resolution to give Imran Khan the right to decide on the issue after it observed that party’s constitution and amended Political Parties Order 2002 did not place any restriction on holding of party offices as well as political posts in the government. “This point needs to be provided for in the constitution and gives the chairman the right to decide on the issue, through consultation, if any dual post is vacated, for the period up to the local government elections, after which elections would be held for the elected posts that had been vacated,” the resolution stated.
The CEC condemned the terrorist attack on a church in Peshawar on Sunday and all Khyber Pakhtunkhwa ministers and chief minister immediately left the meeting to return to Peshawar. Imran Khan also left the meeting to go to Peshawar.
Before leaving, he addressed the CEC and said that the party must resolve differences maturely.
He also praised the party for becoming a cohesive unit in parliament. Imran said the PPP and PML-N were working together and PTI was the only genuine opposition in parliament.
Party leader Hamid Khan gave a briefing on how PTI’s constitution had evolved. The CEC also discussed the issue of discipline and supported Imran’s decision to remove, after enquiry, those members who have gone public against the party and publicly discussed its internal affairs in the media, or opposed party candidates in the elections.
The CEC also agreed that Justice Wajihuddin Ahmed would head a committee which would look into grievances of individual members regarding intra-party elections as well as those relating to provincial elections in Sindh and Balochistan.
Reports were presented on the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government’s performance and its reforms agenda’s implementation.
Reports were also presented on the PTI’s performance in Sindh, Punjab and Balochistan. The discussion ensued on the forthcoming local government elections.
The Punjab and Sindh PTI presidents both informed the CEC that they would go to court against the Punjab and Sindh local government acts which have been passed recently.
