Nationwide protests against Peshawar church bombing
KARACHI: Protests against the deadly Peshawar church bombing in which 83 people lost their lives were held in several cities across the country.
In Peshawar, protests were held in several areas with the largest one taking place outside the provincial assembly, where protestors pelted stones at vehicles. Members of the provincial government met with members of the Christian community who demanded that the army be deployed at churches.
In Karachi protests were held in several areas of the city, including, Korangi, Numaish Chowrangi and Isa Nagri. Protestors were seen pelting stones at vehicles and blocking traffic on several major roads of the city. Traffic jams were reported on Shahrah-e-Faisal MA Jinnah road, Saddar and other parts of the city.
The president of the Bishop Church of Pakistan appealed to protestors to remain calm and not resort to violence. He said that miscreants were turning the protests violent.
In the federal capital, over 600 protestors blocked the expressway leading to a traffic jam.
The Christian community protested in different areas of Hyderabad. Protestors burnt tyres and pelted stones blocking traffic. They demanded that those behind the terrorist attack be held responsible.
In Tando Muhammad Khan and Jamshoro, protests were held outside the press club.
Protests were also held in Faisalabad outside the city’s press club. Protestors held a sit-in and blocked traffic.
The Christian community also protested in Bahawalpur, Gujranwala, Sahiwal, Mandi Bahuddin and Hafizabad.
83 people were killed and over 140 injured in twin suicide attacks at the All Saints Church in Peshawar.
