Army chief visits NLI regiment, meets war veterans in Gilgit

Gen Sharif pays tribute to martyrs, addresses commanding officers conference, pins badges to Lt Gen Ikramul Haq

RAWALPINDI – Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif has lauded the high state of morale, operational preparedness and vigil of Northern Light Infantry (NLI) troops maintained along the most challenging front line.

During his visit to Gilgit on Wednesday, he was addressing the annual commanding officers conference held at NLI Regimental Centre in Bounji. The army chief advised the officers and soldiers of NLI Regiment to continue working with army's traditional unflinching resolve and utmost dedication in the service of the nation.

He laid floral wreath at Yadgar-e-Shuhada, paying tribute to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives while defending the motherland. He also met with war veterans, inquired about their well-being and commended their services for Pakistan. The army chief pinned badges to Lieutenant General Ikramul Haq as new Colonel Commandant of the NLI Regiment.

Upon his arrival at the centre, Gen Sharif was received by Rawalpindi Corps Commander Lieutenant General Qamar Javed Bajwa and Lieutenant General Ikramul Haq who is also inspector general for training and evaluation.
