Pakistan, US review defence, strategic cooperation

RAWALPINDI: The Interim Progress Review (IPR) meeting between Pakistan and the United States was held on Tuesday to review progress on the last Defence Consultative Group (DCG) meeting held in Washington last November
Kelly Magsamen, acting assistant secretary of defence, led the US delegation whereas Additional Defence Secretary Rear Admiral Mukhtar Khan led the Pakistan delegation. “The IPR meeting deliberated on the progress made on issues of bilateral interest and both sides expressed satisfaction over the pace of progress. They reiterated their resolve to further enhance the defence cooperation,” a statement issued by the Defence Ministry stated. Both sides agreed to hold the next round of DCG meeting on mutually agreed date and venue. Prior to the Tuesday meeting, Kelly Magsamen called on Defence Secretary Lt Gen (r) Alam Khattak and discussed various issues relating to defence cooperation including post-2014 security situation in the region.
