MULTAN: Senior politician Mukhdoom Javed Hashmi has filed nomination papers for contesting by-elections in NA-149 as an independent candidate.
Talking to journalists on the occasion, Hashmi said that some PTI parliamentarians were reluctant to tender resignation. He, however, said that he tendered his resignation at National Assembly’s floor so that no option was left with the speaker to reject his resignation.
He observed that some unconstitutional steps were being taken inside PTI and claimed that the party was insulting the mandate of its voters.
He said that he had returned to people of his constituency and the people would decide, whether he did right or wrong. He claimed that he sacrificed for securing the constitution and also reiterated that he would continue the same spirit in future whenever it needed.
To a question about show-cause notice issued by PTI General Secretary Jahangir Tareen, he said that he had not received the show-cause notice, adding that he would respond to the notice.
He, however, observed that Jahangir Tareen and Shah Mehmood Qureshi were enjoying their offices unconstitutionally. He claimed that other candidates in the PTI were not given opportunity to contest election against Shah Mehmood Qureshi for vice-chairmanship of the PTI. He claimed that Imran Khan and he were most popular leaders in the PTI as workers used to raise slogans in their support only. He added that the workers of PTI had not accepted Shah Mehmood Qureshi.
Hashmi also thanked some political parties for not extending party tickets to candidates against him. He, however, added that he wished to contest against the candidates of different political parties.
Meanwhile, as many as 36 candidates submitted nomination papers for bye-polls in NA-149. Besides Hashmi, Malik Aamir Dogar, Dr Javed Siddique, Dr Khalid Khakwani, Malik Liaqat Dogar, Ejaz Janjoa, Rana Faraz Noon, Muhammad Hussain Qureshi, Professor Lateef Ansar Lajpal, Tariq Naeemullah, Shahid Mehmood, Malik Aown Abbas, Muhammad Nadeem Qureshi, Shiekh Muhammad Tahir and others submitted nomination papers.
