MQM protests across Karachi against arrest of workers
KARACHI: Protests are being staged by the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) across the city against the arrest of workers.
Protests are being held in Liaqatabad, Teen-Talwar, Chief Minister House, Rizvia, Numaish Chowrangi and other areas of the city. Schools have shut down while businesses in several areas have been closed. The protests have also badly affected the flow of traffic.
While addressing participants at the sit-in outside CM House, MQM chief Altaf Hussain said there was no law in the country and peaceful workers were arbitrary arrested.
Mr. Hussain said raids were being conducted at the homes of MQM activists adding they would not bow before the Rangers.
Meanwhile, eight MQM workers have been released by Rangers while 15 are still detained. Rangers had conducted a raid at the party’s office in Gulshan-e-Hijri area during the general workers convention and detained several workers.
MQM leader, Faisal Sabzwari said the raid was conducted at a time when the party workers meeting was being held for collection of hides on Eid-ul-Azha.
