SC adjourns case seeking PM Nawaz’s disqualification

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Monday adjourned the case seeking Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s disqualification till October 2.

A three-member bench of the Supreme Court headed by Justice Jawwad S Khawaja and comprising Justice Musheer Alam and Justice Dost Mohammad Khan heard the case.

One of the two petitions seeking the prime minister’s disqualification has been filed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Ishaq Khakwani while the other by Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) President Senator Shujaat Hussain.

The petitioners have requested the court to disqualify Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif under Article 62-f of the constitution claiming he gave a false statement in the National Assembly over the role of the army in the political crisis.

The lawyer of the petitioners, Irfan Qadir called on the court to declare the prime minister ineligible and stop him from working until a decision is made.

Justice Khawaja told Qadir that the case was called twice before but he (Qadir) was not present. To this Qadir replied that he was not aware that the case would be called out of turn.

The apex court has directed the petitioners lawyer to prepare for Article 69, 68 and 95 during the next hearing of the case.
