By Tanveer Ahmed
ISLAMABAD: The Parliamentary Committee on Electoral Reforms will take up the fact sheet of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) about May 2013 general polls today (Monday). The committee has been formed to bring in electoral reforms in the country and will be meeting after a break of ten days without the lawmakers of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), which is a vocal supporter of these reforms. Because of the party’s decision to resign from parliament, PTI members will not participate in the committee meeting. PTI has three members in the body which comprises of 33 members. The significant agenda will include a fact sheet about general elections of last year. The ECP will take it to the committee for a thorough discussion.
The fact sheet was prepared recently after the ECP’s role came under sharp criticism over a report that it posted on its website about the general elections. The report which has the signatures of six officials of the ECP was rejected for not being official. It was compiled by the observers about the last year general polls. The fact sheet categorically rejects the allegations of ballot papers being printed by additional and private printing presses. The ECP has pointed out that 180 million ballot papers were printed, of which 112.5 million were printed by the Printing Corporation and 67.5 million by the Security Printing Corporation.
