ISLAMABAD – Punjab Governor Chaudhary Muhammad Sarwar on Tuesday taking exception of some unscrupulous and disgruntled elements' efforts to create doubts about his commitment and loyalty asserted to serve the people and Pakistan.
Talking to APP at the Governor's House, he said that he firmly believes in supremacy of the constitution, rule of law, promotion of democracy and would continue to hold the glory of the motto – faith, unity and discipline. “I am using all my capabilities and potential to contribute in the national development and progress of the people of Punjab in particular and people of Pakistan in general,” he said.
He said previously as a member of the British parliament, it was on record that he spoke 22 times in the house to fully support Pakistan and always advocated the cause of motherland by exercising his sphere of influence on all issues. He said such elements who wanted to create misunderstanding would never succeed in their designs as everyone knows about his highest degree of integrity and unyielding loyalty.
Regarding his recent meeting with Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief in London, he said that he met Altaf Hussain just to express his gratitude to him for his sincere efforts to help settle sit-in issue. About formation of a government of technocrats, he clarified that it was exclusive point of view of Altaf Hussain who suggested its formation after the completion of current tenure of the government and he had nothing to do with it.
To a question on London Plan, he said that he neither met Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan or Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) chief Tahirul Qadri and nor had any knowledge about their such plan or meeting. He said that the media should verify the contents of such news items before its publication and telecasting which he added was the hallmark of the freedom of press and basic ingredient of the responsible journalism.
About the sit-ins, the governor said that they had tried to find a viable solution with sincerity but unfortunately his untiring efforts could not yield a positive impact. He said that the sit-ins were inflicting billions of rupees daily loss to national economy besides badly hampering economic growth in Pakistan in addition to rendering millions of labourers jobless.
He was of the view that both the sit-in leaders should show some flexibility for the sake of the democracy and the people of Pakistan and never forgets that the political achievements could only be gained through dialogues and quick fixing of the issues. About introduction of merit in educational institutions in the province, he said it was imperative to ensure transparency and merit in spheres of national life which was duel backed by the prime minister and the chief minister.
Dispelling the rumours regarding his resignation, he said his conscience was clear and he continued to serve masses till the pleasure of the prime minister. He said that the prime minister has acknowledged his efforts and contributions for obtaining GSP-plus status for Pakistan for which he was grateful. “I had come back to Pakistan to serve my people and my country and I will do it at all costs,” he said.
