Punjab to restore, preserve ignored monuments in Multan
With rich history, over five thousand years old city has historical shrines of saints, mosques and temples

MULTAN – The Punjab government is working on a plan to identify, restore and preserve ignored monuments in the city, with an aim to revive tourism in the region.
Multan, which is more than five thousand years old city, has rich history as it had hundreds historical shrines of saints, mosques, and temples. Ghulam Muhammad – a sub divisional officer of the Archeology Department – told the Associated Press of Pakistan that a four-member special committee has been constituted by the Punjab government.
The general manager of the Tourism Development Corporation of Punjab (TDCP), Archeology’s sub divisional officer, district sports officer and one official from the commissioner's office are the members of the committee.

Punjab Minister for Tourism Rana Mashhood was taking special interest in the promotion of tourism especially in the history-rich region of the southern areas, Ghulam Muhammad said. He said that the committee would inspect different monuments, having attractive historical background and can be restored, renovated and preserved properly.
He said that there were number of such monuments in form of tombs, mosques and temples in Multan wherein little attention could help preserving them. He said that the committee would submit its suggestions for the renovation and preservation of the sites. He said that the renovated sites would surely attract a large number of visitors in Pakistan.
However, the official said that suggestions would be submitted within next few days as the committee had started work in this regard.
