Homage paid to martyrs at Rangers Headquarters
Rangers DG offers fateha, lays floral wreath at Yadgar-e-Shuhada

KARACHI – Pakistan Rangers Sindh Director General Major General Bilal Akbar laid a floral wreath at the Yadgar-e-Shuhada at the Rangers Headquarters on the occasion of 50th Defence Day of Pakistan here on Sunday.

He offered fateha for the martyrs who laid down their lives for the defence of the motherland. Besides the Rangers director general, sector commanders and officers of the paramilitary force were also present on the occasion.

– One-minute silence –

In Islamabad, Radio Pakistan hosted a ceremony to observe one-minute silence for heroes of 1965 war on the Defence Day of Pakistan at the National Broadcasting House. Information and Broadcasting Secretary Muhammad Azam, Radio Pakistan Director General Syed Muhammad Imran Gardezi, other directors and staff of the national broadcaster joined the nation in observing one-minute silence at 9:29am.

This was followed by playing of national anthem. It is noteworthy that the Radio Pakistan is broadcasting special marathon transmission – Jan Nisaroon Ko Salam – to pay homage to valiant personnel of the armed forces who fought courageously and repulsed aggression by the enemy.

The transmission is being aired on medium wave, FM-93, and FM-94 networks. The historic role played by the Radio Pakistan during 1965 war is being widely acknowledged by all segments of the society, particularly the electronic media and the press.

– Tributes paid to Major Shabbir Sharif –

In Lahore, Pakistan Army officers and people from various walks of life visited the grave of Major Shabbir Sharif – recipient of Nishan-e-Haider and Sitara-e-Jurrat – and paid tributes to him on Defence Day of Pakistan on Sunday.

The Pakistan Army organised a befitting ceremony at the tomb of this brave officer in Miani Sahib Graveyard which was attended by Major General Fida Hussain Malik and a large number of citizens. A smartly-turned out contingent of the Pakistan Army presented a salute to Major Shabbir Sharif who embraced martyrdom in 1971 war.

Taimoor Shabbir – son of Major Shabbir Sharif – and other family members also visited the tomb and offered fateha. Talking to the media, Taimoor paid glowing tributes to the army for rendering great sacrifices for the sake of Pakistan’s defence. He urged the nation to continue support to the army for the defence of homeland.
