ISLAMABAD - President Mamnoon Hussain has said that the Pakistani and Chinese leadership is committed to timely completion of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), adding that this is a win-win scenario for both countries as it would benefit not only the two countries, but also the entire region.

He expressed these views while talking to a Chinese delegation headed by Tsinghua University’s Pakistan Culture and Communication Centre Director Prof Li Xiguang, which called on him at the Presidency here on Monday.

The president noted that the revival of the Silk Road through the economic corridor was an important development as it would reinforce the historic and traditional cultural links between the two neighbourly countries. He emphasised that people-to-people contacts and strengthening of cultural ties were extremely important for both countries and their people.

Mamnoon recalled his recent visit to China where he attended the parade in Beijing - marking the 70th anniversary of the victory in World War-II - adding that as a gesture of solidarity, support and friendship a contingent of Pakistan armed forces also participated in the military parade.

He appreciated the initiative taken by the Pakistan-China Institute with its Chinese partners, particularly Prof Li Xiguang and Chairman Lin, to build a cultural corridor as well as an information corridor to support and supplement the economic corridor.

He noted with appreciation that a unique and first of its kind cultural exhibition on the theme “Salam-Confucius” was being organised at the Pak-China Friendship Centre, which aimed at promoting tenets and principles of the great Chinese philosopher Confucius and at the same time highlighting convergences in Islamic and Confucian values and traditions.

The president congratulated the organisers for arranging this exhibition and wished its success. On the occasion, Bolin Group Chairman Lin Youwu presented a turbaned figure of famous Chinese philosopher Confucius to President Mamnoon Hussain. Senate Defece Committee and Pakista-China Institute Chairman Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed also attended the meeting.
