SC restores ECP’s code of conduct for by-elections
ISLAMABAD: Declaring the Lahore High Court orders ‘null and void’, Supreme Court has restored Election Commission of Pakistan’s code for conduct for upcoming by-elections.
The three-judge bench, headed by Justice Saqib Nisar, heard the case pertaining to election commission’s rules and regulations here Tuesday.
The SC barred members of the parliament and ministers from visiting the particular constituency to campaign for the candidate.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf MPA Mansoor Sarwar had moved to Lahore High Court against ECP’s code, which had ruled in favour of PTI.
As per the LHC ruling, the Prime Minister, Chief Minister, federal and Punjab ministers were allowed to fully campaign for their candidates in the forthcoming high-profile by-elections.
Later, the ECP had challenged LHC’s verdict in the apex court.
Today, the SC declared LHC decision void and adjourned the hearing for indefinite period.
