Pakistan Rangers leaves for New Delhi for bi-annual talks
NEW DELHI – After the collapse of the NSA dialogue, India and Pakistan will seek to start afresh on Wednesday as a 16-member team from the India arrives here for talks between Pakistan Rangers and BSF.
A 16-member Pakistani delegation whcih is led by Punjab Rangers Director General Major General Umar Farooq Barki on Wednesday left for New Delhi for talks via Wagah border. The delegation includes officials of the Ministry of Interior, the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) among the Rangers.
According to Punjab Rangers, these talks are held alternatively in India and Pakistan. Both border guarding forces will discuss professional matters related to border management. In order to avoid losses to innocent civilian lives and properties the delegation will discuss issues pertaining to unprovoked ceasefire violations, smuggling and safe/early return of inadvertent border crossers.
These talks will be held at New Delhi from 9 to 12 September. India and Pakistan are both expected to underline the sanctity of the 2003 ceasefire understanding but Pakistan is likely to also seek a revival of United Nations Military Observers Group in India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP) to address any violation of that understanding.
