26 Pakistani pilgrims being treated in Saudi Arabia: FO

ISLAMABAD: The Foreign Office said on Saturday that as many as 26 Pakistani citizens who were injured on Friday in a crane accident in Holy Mosque of Makkah are being treated in different hospitals in Saudi Arabia.

A spokesman for the foreign office said no injured pilgrim was in critical condition.

The foreign ministry has issued a press release carrying names of the patients, details of injuries and the three hospitals where they are being treated.

Earlier, reports said about 52 Pakistani nationals are among the injured pilgrims while six were said to be in critical condition.

At least 107 people were killed and 238 others injured when a construction crane crashed into the Grand Mosque of Saudi Arabia's holy Muslim city of Makkah on Friday.

A massive project is currently underway to increase the area of the mosque by 400,000 square metres (4.3 million square feet), allowing it to accommodate up to 2.2 million people at once.

The mosque is surrounded by a number of cranes.
