Online

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has approved Justice (r) Chaudhry Munir as the chief election commissioner (CEC) of Azad Jammu and Kashmir after four years on permanent basis. According to details, the slot of the CEC was vacant after general polls in AJK, and the AJK government, opposition and the Ministry of Kashmir Affairs approved no name, unanimously, for the last four years. The AJK government has sent three names for CEC to the PM through Ministry of Kashmir Affairs. Kashmir Council Chairman and PM Nawaz Shairf has approved the name of Justice (r) Chaudhry Munir as the CEC and dispatch the summery to the AJK government through Ministry of Kashmir Affairs. The AJK government and opposition has returned this file to Ministry of Kashmir Affairs while showing no confidence in Justice (r) Chaudhry Munir, and categorically refused to depute Chaudhry Munir as the CEC. Sources said that the AJK government and opposition have agreed on Justice (r) Abdul Rashid Sulheria for CEC, however, Minister of Kashmir Affairs has got approval of Justice (r) Chaudhry Munir as the CEC from the PM without giving respect to the opinion of government of AJK and opposition. When contacted, the AJK government and Minister of Information Spokesman Sardar Abid Hussain Abid, he showed ignorance about the approval of summery of CEC and said that no summary in this regard was received to AJK government by the Ministry of Kashmir Affairs.
