Political party in Karachi, Sindh govt being made targets: Aitzaz
ISLAMABAD: Leader of Opposition in Senate, Aitzaz Ahsan of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) on Monday said a political party in Karachi as well as the governance in Sindh are being made targets.
Addressing the Senate today, he said that he is not presenting anyone’s purity as far as corruption is concerned, however, one party is being discriminated against.
Regarding the detention of Dr. Asim Hussain, Aitzaz said that if the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and the Federal Investigative Agency (FIA) had taken action against the former senator, there would not have been any need for a legal representative.
He added that accusing Dr Asim of terrorism and detaining him on a 90 day remand is also discrimination.
Aitzaz also brought up the Nandipur power project and informed the Senate that the cost of the project has risen from Rs.23 billion to Rs. 83 billion.
“If this was the case during the tenure of a prime minister belonging to the PPP government then he would have immediately been accused of corruption.”
Defending the MQM, the Leader of Opposition in Senate said it seemed so far that there is no truth in the allegations against the party, adding that why weren’t any actions taken when MQM was an ally of Pervez Musharraf.
