PTI challenges ECP decision barring party chief from election campaign
LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has challenged in the Lahore High Court the decision of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to bar party chairman Imran Khan from taking part in the campaigns of its electoral candidates.
Under the ECP's code of conduct, MPs are not allowed to canvass in the constituencies whereby-polls are being held. However, Imran Khan is of the view that he is the party chairman and it is his responsibility to convey and propagate the party's manifesto.
In its plea, the PTI has contended that barring the party chief from election campaign does not come under the jurisdiction of the ECP.
Defying apparent rules for election campaigning, Khan, after consultation with legal experts, had announced a full-scale electoral drive for NA-122 and NA-154 constituencies.
On Saturday, he said: "I am inaugurating Abdul Aleem Khan's electoral campaign here, people are set to defeat those who stole their mandate."
Khan also announced a massive rally for October 4 in Islamabad and added that further plan of action will be announced then.
