Sardar Yousuf, Sartaj Aziz to brief Senate over Mina situation
ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Religious Affairs Sardar Yousuf and Advisor on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz have been summoned to the Senate session convened for October 5 to brief the house about the situation of Pakistani Hajj pilgrims in the aftermath of the Mina stampede.
The decision to summon Sardar Yousuf and Sartaj Aziz was taken by Speaker Senate Raza Rabbani who, in a letter, took notice of the concerns of the families of Pakistani Hajj pilgrims against the backdrop of Mina incident.
At least 769 Hajj pilgrims from various countries were martyred as a result of a stampede last week in Mina where they had gathered to stone the devil as a ritual for this year's Hajj.
More than 900 pilgrims were injured while scores others went missing in the incident.
Till now martyrdoms of 40 Pakistanis have been confirmed while 63 are still missing.
