List of 44 martyred Pakistani hajjis not verified: Ambassador
RIYADH: Pakistan’s Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Manzoor-ul-Haq said on Tuesday that the list of 44 Pakistani hajjis martyred in the Mina stampede was not verified.
The ambassador said there might be room for error in the list issued by the Ministry of Religious Affairs.
Ambassador Manzoor-ul-Haq added that the embassy had only received the remains of 14 Pakistani hajjis.
The Ministry of Religious Affairs issued its list of Pakistani martyrs raising the toll to 44. Over 60 Pakistani hajjis remain missing after the Mina stampede.
At least 1,100 Hajj pilgrims from various countries were martyred as a result of a stampede last week in Mina during the Rami of Jamarat (stoning the devil).
More than 900 pilgrims were injured while scores others went missing in the incident.
