Gen Sharif arrives in Britain on 3-day visit

LONDON – Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif arrived in Britain on a three-day official visit.

According to media reports, he was received at the airport by the top British government officials and the high military command. The army chief is scheduled to hold meetings on security issues. The sources are attaching great importance to this visit.

General Sharif met Chief of Defence Staff of the British Armed Forces General Sir Nicholas Houghton. Diverse issues ranging from matters of mutual interest, regional security to defence co-operation were discussed. Earlier, the army chief addressed CENTCOM Asia Security Conference in Munich, Germany.

He was of the view that a peaceful Afghanistan can open up regional connectivity but the constant instability in Afghanistan had telling effects on the region.
