MQM decides to challenge PS-127 by-elections results
KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movemnet (MQM) Pakistan has decided to challenge results of PS-127 Malir Karachi by-elections, sources said Friday.
According to the sources, the party will file appeal against the results of by-polls in the Election Tribunal.
According to unofficial results, the Pakistan People's Party (PPP)’s candidate Ghulam Murtaza Baloch clinched the PS-127 seat of Sindh Assembly, Karachi, in a crucial by-elections held in the city on Thursday. MQM’s Waseem Ahmed remained the runner-up.
MQM has demanded for verification of votes of 51 polling stations besides recounting from rural areas of the constituency, sources said.
MQM Pakistan Rabitta Committee also called for verification of thumb impression on the voters list.
Walkout From National Assembly
MQM lawmakers on Friday staged walkout from National Assembly for alleged injustices.
Speaking outside the parliament house, MQM leader Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui said, “Peace can’t prevail in Karachi without justice. Peace in the port city is fake and temporary”.
Commenting on the demolition of MQM offices in Karachi, Siddiqui said 80 percent party offices, constructed on rented or purchased lands, were razed by the authorities.
Criticizing Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui said it is unfortunate that the Premier had not time to listen our grievances over injustices committed in the democratic system.
MQM criticism came shortly after its lawmakers attempted to meet PM Nawaz Sharif in his chamber but failed.
Earlier, MQM parliamentarians briefly met the prime minister in the National Assembly on Friday, as the premier made a rare appearance in the house.
TV footage shows the prime minister standing up from his seat to meet MQM leaders Kunwar Naveed and Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui.
