PML-N, PTI gear up for knife-edge NA-120 by-poll
PTI opens election office on Fane Road while PML-N inaugurates office in Mozang
LAHORE: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) are putting in their all-out efforts to win the NA-120 by-poll as both the mainstream parties opened their offices in the constituency on Tuesday.
Dr Yasmin Rashid, the PTI’s candidate for the by-poll inaugurated party’s office on Fane Road while Maryam Nawaz, who is running the election campaign of PML-N’s candidate Kulsoom Nawaz, opened party’s office in Mozang.
The PTI also held a corner meeting in the Union Council-61 in which former Punjab governor Chaudhry Sarwar, former minister Ajasam Sharif, Waleed Iqbal, Andleeb Abbas, Ejaz Chaudhry and others participated.
Speaking on the occasion, PTI leaders said that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had failed to implement the election code of conduct as the ruling PML-N was allegedly using public resources to influence the voters.
Dr Yasmin said that the PML-N was using public resources to manipulate the by-election in favour of its candidate Kulsoom Nawaz, who is in London for cancer treatment.
In his address, Chaudhry Sarwar said that the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had become the guardian of corruption. He urged Punjab Police inspector general to take notice of alleged harassment of the party’s female workers during the election campaign.
Ejaz Chaudary said that the rulers were afraid of the popularity of the PTI. He said that PML-N had done nothing in the past 35 years for the welfare of the people.
Later, Dr Yasmin also led a door-to-door campaign in the area.
Meanwhile, Maryam Nawaz, daughter of ousted premier Nawaz Sharif, inaugurated the party’s office in Mozang.
Earlier, she visited the shrine of Sufi saint Hazrat Data Gunj Bakhsh (RA) and prayed for the early recovery of her mother.
Addressing the gathering, she expressed hope that her party would clinch victory in the by-election.
She asked charged party workers to vote for the PML-N. She asserted that Nawaz Sharif was both ‘Sadiq’ and ‘Ameen’, and added that cases were registered against him (Nawaz) to probe alleged corruption but they ended with offshore accounts.
It might be mentioned that PML-N workers shouted a loud ‘No’ when Maryam Nawaz asked them whether they accept the Supreme Court decision in the Panama Papers case.
