Imran submits reply to ECP in contempt case
LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e- Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan’s lawyer Babar Awan submitted his client’s reply to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) at a hearing of the contempt of court case on Monday.
The five-member bench of ECP, chaired by the Chief Election Commissioner Justice (r) Sardar Raza Khan, reserved its verdict till September 27 for reviewing the reply submitted by PTI chief.
The petition against Imran, filed by former party member Akbar S. Babar, argued that he used derogatory words against ECP in his reply to the commission in another case regarding party funding.
PTI chairman had already submitted an unconditional apology for his scandalous remarks. However, ECP once again moved against Imran after a TV interview in which he refused to own that apology by saying that his lawyer offered it in his individual capacity.
On Monday, in his reply to the ECP, Imran said that his counsel submitted the apology on his behalf, adding that the issue should have been resolved after the submission of his reply.
Babar Awan also submitted the verdict of Islamabad High Court (IHC), suspending the arrest warrants for PTI chairman issued by ECP on September 14.
