Overseas Pakistanis to start registering today for i-voting in by-polls
By-polls are scheduled to be held in 37 constituencies on October 14.
ISLAMABAD: The online registration for overseas Pakistanis for the upcoming by-elections is scheduled to start today and will continue till September 15.
By-polls are scheduled to be held in 37 constituencies on October 14. These constituencies include 11 National Assembly (NA) while 26 provincial assembly seats.
While talking to the media on Friday, Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) spokesman Nadeem Qasim informed that overseas Pakistanis will be able to cast their votes through passports in the by-polls.
“National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) will facilitate overseas voters through its online system,” Qasim added.
For guiding the online registration process, NADRA has issued a video for overseas voters, ECP spokesperson said.
The Supreme Court (SC), on August 17, had allowed overseas Pakistanis to vote in the by-election.
Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Mian Saqib Nisar had observed that overseas Pakistanis would be able to participate in the by-polls through i-voting.
Earlier on August 14, the ECP had decided to initiate pilot projects for voting rights of overseas Pakistanis, which, reportedly, would not affect the results of the by-polls.
