Govt is determined to practice austerity: President Alvi
President Arif Alvi, in his maiden speech to a joint session of Parliament today, stressed on the need of practicing austerity and eradicating corruption from the country.
President Alvi said that the government was determined to practice the austerity and end VIP culture from the country.
Commenting on the threat of water scarcity, the president reiterated that the construction of dams is the top priority of the country.
During his speech, the president acknowledged the significance of overseas Pakistanis for boasting economy of the country and urged them to contribute for the betterment of their country.
He also stressed on the importance of education and appreciated the Khyber PakhtunKhwa government’s steps in this regard.
President Alvi further said that empowering women is necessary for national progress, adding that no nation can progress without their women’s contribution.
Moreover, he also commented on India-Pakistan relationship and said all the disputes between the two countries should be resolved. He added that Pakistan would continue its efforts regarding Kashmir and ‘we will not deprive them (Kashmiris) of their rights’.
National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser chaired the first joint session of the PTI government, which was also attended by the Prime Minister Imran Khan.
The session started with a moment of silence and prayer for late Kulsoom Nawaz.
Paksitan Muslim League-Nawaz lawmakers staged walkout from the session.
