SC dismisses petition seeking PM Khan’s disqualification

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Monday dismissed petition seeking Prime Minister Imran Khan’s disqualification under Article 62 of the Constitution.

A three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Saqib Nisar and consisting of Justice Umar Atta Bandial and Justice Ijaz-ul-Ahsan conducted hearing of the petition filed against the PM.

The petition was dismissed after petitioner Barrister Daniyal Chaudhry decided to withdraw the plea since Justice Ahsan remarked that ‘the petition is now ineffective’. Daniyal, however, said that one of the issues mentioned in the petition was still effective and he will raise it before the high court.

The petition, filed on June 12, argues that the PTI chief provided wrong information in his nomination papers and did not mention Tyrian White as his daughter. He is, therefore, neither Sadiq nor Ameen, and should be disqualified under Article 62 of the constitution, the petition stated.
