Examining
the Failure of World Religions
By Dr. Moorthy Muthuswamy

I would like to give a counterpoint
to the column titled "Examining the Failure
of World Religions" by Dr. Amjad Hussain
in my capacity as a nuclear physicist.
I think the time has come to study the underpinnings
of all religions objectively.
We know from archeological studies that medieval
civilizations that existed thousands of years
ago had far less sophisticated infrastructure.
As a scientist I can tell you that building
an extensive understanding of nature requires
sophisticated experimental verification that
in turn requires highly complex infrastructure
– like we have in the modern times.
Hence, there exists little basis that these
medieval civilizations could have come up with
an all-encompassing "theory of origin"
and governance called religion when they had
a very primitive, mostly shown to be false,
understanding of nature around them. Given their
state of ignorance it is highly unlikely that
they could really appreciate any "revelations"
or distinguish the "real" ones. In
fact, civilization progress we see today was
first initiated in many western Christian nations
by braking the shackles imposed by the religious
order, and let modern science and commonsense
guide the society.
This is the big picture we all need to keep
in mind.
