I am amazed at the large number of anti-Pakistan
articles in your fine newspaper. On July 28, 2005
you had a page one story entitled “Pakistan
connection seen in Taliban’s new tactics.”
The fact is that Pakistan has been fighting along
with the US forces even though it was never attacked
by the Taliban or al Qaeda. Indeed because of
Pakistan’s active role in the war against
terror alongside the US, the al Qaeda has tried
to assassinate President Musharraf and its supporters
have issued a fatwa to take his life.
The war against terrorism has lost a lot of steam
because it has been extended to such a level that
10s of thousands have been affected by its fire;
like the Brazilian electrician in London andthe
innocents who are killed and maimed in Iraq and
Afghanistan daily. The area in the Northern part
of Pakistan has always been autonomous, even during
the Raj.
The Pakistani government is doing its best in
undertaking dangerous operations in the area to
eliminate foreign terrorists. This is a civil
war like situation and daily many recruits are
added to the other side due to the mismanagement
of the operation. It is regrettable that instead
of appreciating what the Pakistanis are doing
we continue to act like ungrateful friends.
