Why
Should We Help?

Sometimes inspiration comes
from odd places. As I watch the days go by I believe
in myself and others around me more and more.
Two years ago I had taken a journey through Pakistan
where I had so much inspiration and so much hope
that no book and no class could ever teach me.
As I and my mom were sitting on a train heading
out to Karachi, an old man in tattered clothes,
having only one foot, was stumbling across the
small train pathway begging for money. Approaching
us, he said he had five daughters and he needed
money for their marriage. His tears were a convincing
proof of his sorry plight and spoke more than
words. I am sure everyone of us has experienced
a similar situation walking down the street or
shopping in the bazaar.
Unfortunately we don’t have many support
groups or centers in Pakistan to help the needy.
I remember my mother telling me Prophet Muhammad
(PBUH) always said that helping an orphan or a
widow is like doing hajj. This served as an inspiration
to help orphans and widows. My father always said
if you have none you always have Allah. With such
thoughts in my mind I live my life and hope to
make a difference by helping at least one person
before I die. My goal in life is to open an orphanage
in Pakistan so that the kids who have no one will
have someone. If you have any ideas to help people
in Pakistan please let me know. I would love to
hear any suggestions to further my research in
achieving this goal.
