Earthquake
Tax Should Be Levied

Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz in a
press conference the other day said that no tax
had been imposed for the earthquake relief. I
say, why not? During my younger days I remember
we had Refugee Tax and later on in the 70s Flood
Relief Tax which remained operative for decades.
I would, therefore, suggest the PM and the President
to introduce EQ tax in the country to meet the
colossal expenditure needed for the rehabilitation
and reconstruction phase. I am sure the nation
would not mind paying this tax and shall pay it
most willingly.
