Of
Boards & Committees

The News in its 4 December issue reported that
a controversial poem has been deleted from an
inter textbook. The fist letter of each verse
of the poem ‘The Leader’ when conjugated
in sequence spell “George W Bush’,
and the poem eulogises his leadership qualities
rather poetically. To top it all the poet’s
name is not mentioned, which is considered a scholastic
requirement to lend credibility to the literature
included in the textbooks.
An official of the concerned ministry wondered
as to how a number of committees that sift through
all textbooks failed to notice such a glaringly
objectionable material for more than a year.
The answer is very simple. They are just unfit
for the task assigned to them. And, there is no
dearth of such nincompoops holding important posts
in Pakistan.
