The Two-Nation Theory
By Ali Haider

Borrowing from a famous phrase, I would say that the news of the so-called "Death of the two-nation theory" is greatly exaggerated. As for S A Rai, it seems that he thinks that everybody in the government has to tow the same line. Welcome to the Musharraf miracle, Mr. Rai. People can disagree with what you call the "raison d'etre" of the creation of our nation, but as long as they serve the nation faithfully, they can all work together towards a common goal.

And as long as Babar Khan Ghauri's opinion about the two-Nnation theory does not affect the Ports & Shipping Ministry, he is fully entitled to his own opinion, as is Mr. Altaf Husain. Ironically, while a Pakistani Minister declares the two nation theory dead, the Indian officials, right up to Mr. Vajpayee, are proving it to be very much alive by way of their deeds. Mr. Advani's personal involvement in the destruction of the Babri Masjid along with Narinder Modi's use of the state apparatus to carry out his murderous Hindutva pogroms against the Muslims coupled with the venom spewed by Mr. Vajpayee against the Muslims of the world in his speech at Goa are all proofs that justice for Muslims is impossible under Hindu rule. Rai can tell his chldren that there were once two nations that shared the subcontinent for a thousand years and hated every minute of it.

After that they were taken slave by a third nation, the British. In the 1930's and 40's a fourth nation called Germans broke the back of the third, the British. This provided the first two nations an opportunity to seek independence and sovereignty. The British wanted to leave Muslims under Hindu rule. A man named Mohammad Ali Jinnah led a valiant struggle and delivered the Muslims from the jaws of slavery. History testifies that a nation that worshipped cows and a nation that ate cows had the misfortune of sharing the same piece of land. A man named Mohammad Ali Jinnah drew a line between them in 1947. If one's kids are more than five years old, they can grasp this concept quite easily, especially if they enjoy going to McDonald's.
