May Allah Bless America By Siddique Malik President www.spreadfreedom.com

A front-page article in the USA Today of January 6, 2005 raised an excellent question: "Could US aid to survivors (of the Asian Tsunami) counter anti-Americanism among Muslims?" Sadly, my answer to this question is in the negative.

The problem is not that Muslims are genetically anti-American but that most of them (even educated ones) are hopelessly addicted to the venom of the ignorant and bigoted clerics with whom the world is tragically replete. These icons of hatred and ignorance exist not just in the Third World but also in Australia, Europe and even America.

The recipe of these demons is simple: recite a few verses from the Holy Book (regardless of these verses' relationship to the topic of the moment - most Muslims including most clerics do not understand Arabic) and then utter many thousand words of hatred. Tragically, the audience that may include doctors, engineers, accountants, professors, etc., would just sit there and listen to these diatribes.

I am sure that some of the mosques even in America are not immune to this phenomenon. Generally, if you have a little bit of religion it is good for you but its excessive intakes will destroy your mind. Unless Muslims stop making themselves available to be the victims of these acts of spiritual highhandedness by the clerics, America will always be the culprit, regardless of what it does or doesn't do. America epitomizes freedom, equality and human dignity, ideas that are completely alien to and constitute an anathema to these people. If and when Muslims develop a serious love of freedom and start to question these dispensers of narrow-mindedness, the latter will automatically become irrelevant and subsequently extinct. Only then, Muslims' real journey on the road to progress will commence.

There is already a talk among Muslims that the Tsunami was triggered by an American nuclear test. I am not surprised by this talk; this is yet another baseless conspiracy theory that ironically will find many subscribers. Ignorance is a bliss. Meanwhile, let America continue to do what it does best: serve the humanity, as the filthy rich Arab kingdoms and emirates greedily count their oil revenues and bow towards Mecca five times a day. What good are these prayers if they fail to engender a love and respect for humanity and an irresistible need to help fellow human beings especially when they are in desperate need? May Allah bless America, a fountainhead of freedom, humanity's first and last hope, and a conduit through which the Almighty dispenses numerous bounties to mankind.
