What’s
Wrong with the Muslim Neo-cons?

Mr. Habib Siddiqui’s
short comment in Pakistan Link’s Opinion
columns on February 17, 2005 appeared to be redundant
cacophony. He seemed to be stigmatized by the
so-called Muslim neo-cons. As a believer in puritanical
Islam he has every right to express his serious
reservation about the emerging global movement
of the ex-Muslims and freethinkers. But he has
no right to term that group of individuals as
“cultural coolies”.
Mr. Habib Siddiqui got one thing factually wrong.
Most of the so-called Muslim-hate websites are
sharply critical of Islamic belief system but
they seldom show any semblance of Muslim hating.
But it is correct that one or two websites are
critical of the Prophet of Islam quite openly.
That could have hurt the soul of a deep believer
like Mr. Siddiqui.
America was very welcoming to all faiths and beliefs.
The country welcomed devout Hindus; super religious
Buddhists and ultra-orthodox Muslims. Places of
worship in this land of opportunity were never
a target of surveillance. The current reality
of proliferation of terrorism occasionally intertwined
with houses of worship pushed the limit of American
generosity.
The people who abandoned Islam are no threat to
the Western civilization. They do not imagine
of imposing Shari’a in this land of freedom.
They are the true sons and daughters of the land
who would like to see the country prosper.
