Killer Katrina:
Pakistanis’ Responsibility

The United States of America
has been hit by one of the worst natural disasters
in its history. In New Orleans, Louisiana and
its surroundings Hurricane Katrina has damaged
beyond repairs tens of thousands of homes and
businesses and left more than 78,000 people in
emergency shelters. It would take years to recover
from the colossal damage. Apart from providing
food and shelter to the affected, breaking out
of cholera, typhoid and dehydrating diseases in
the region is of immediate concern to the health
authorities.
I think the government and the people of Pakistan
should rise to the occasion and come to the help
of the afflicted people there. There is no doubt
that the sole super power is quite capable of
looking after its people but we as Muslims are
ordained to help the people in distress and, therefore,
must extend our helping hand to them in their
hour of calamity and trial. The government is
strongly advised to take appropriate measures
in this regard.
