Celebrating
the Peace Week

I find myself, for the very
first time, in a situation that manages to plant
seeds of doubt in my sensory realm. No matter
where or with whom I am nor does it matter what
activity I engage myself in, I continuously seem
to witness a widening gap of disparity amongst
ideas, material possessions, and individual convictions.
Perhaps this epiphany is a result of my personal
maturity at some level.
There are fewer people who are becoming successful
or increasingly wealthy, while a disproportionately
large population is relatively very poor. The
term poverty is literally translated into lack
of means of providing material needs or comfort.
Unfortunately, the effects of the definition do
not solely cater to economic factors. The ripples
of poverty extend into the psychological and sociological
avenues as well.
Pretension becomes a norm; apathy of the human
condition is regarded as a virtue, and society
segregates. Somewhere along the road to the promised
utopia, we accepted capitalism and globalization
as our saviors. Rattled identities, misguided
vengeance and distorted humanism plague our essence
as a result of this intricate web of paradoxical
maneuvers.
To me, it seems much too easy to split the society
into fractions…
As we celebrate the Peace Week let’s stop
and reflect what repercussions the cryptic prevarications
will have on the well-being of humanity.
